Prime Video and Rogers Communications have announced a 12-year agreement that will see Prime Video exclusively broadcast national NHL regular-season games on Wednesday nights in Canada. This deal, which includes both English and French language coverage, is set to commence with the 2026-2027 season.

The new agreement expands on an existing partnership and marks a significant development for hockey fans across Canada. The arrangement also grants Prime Video exclusive rights to certain Stanley Cup Playoff series within Canada. This includes two First Round playoff series and one Second Round series annually.

Under the terms of the agreement, Prime Video will carry at least 26 national regular-season NHL games each season. The broadcasts are scheduled to begin on Wednesday, September 30, and will be available exclusively to Prime members in Canada at no additional cost.

Expanded Hockey Coverage for Canadian Fans

This long-term deal builds upon the foundation established by Prime Video and Rogers, reinforcing the value of NHL hockey content in Canada. Tony Staffieri, President and CEO of Rogers, emphasized the commitment to connecting more fans with NHL hockey and delivering more national games with fewer blackouts on Sportsnet.

For the past two seasons, Prime Video has been involved in streaming NHL games in Canada, specifically carrying regular-season contests on Monday nights. This previous involvement has garnered positive feedback for its production quality and on-site broadcasts.

Jay Marine, Head of Global Sports at Prime Video, expressed enthusiasm for the expanded partnership, highlighting that it brings more premium live sports to Prime members in Canada. He noted that this addition, combined with existing offerings like original series, movies, and shipping benefits, enhances the overall value of a Prime membership for Canadian customers.

Gary Bettman, Commissioner of the NHL, also commented on the agreement, stating that Prime Video has been a valuable addition to the league’s media lineup in Canada. He indicated that the deepening relationship between Prime Video and Rogers reflects a shared commitment to serving English and French-language hockey fans across the country with premium NHL content for years to come.

Production and Future Details

The NHL on Prime broadcasts are expected to continue delivering world-class production and innovation. This includes an on-air team dedicated to providing in-depth analysis and play-by-play coverage for viewers.

Further details regarding the talent and production aspects of NHL on Prime are anticipated to be announced at a later date. This information will provide more insight into the broadcast team and the technical execution of the games.

Sportsnet, which holds exclusive English-language rights to more than 500 national NHL games per season, including Monday and Saturday nights, will continue to broadcast the majority of games. This includes the Stanley Cup Playoffs, with the exception of the select series sublicensed to Prime Video. Sportsnet aims to deliver more national games and reduce blackouts for hockey enthusiasts.

This new agreement builds on a previous 12-year deal announced last year between Rogers and the NHL for national media rights to NHL games across all platforms in Canada, covering seasons from 2026-27 through 2037-38.
