The Edmonton Oilers are set to begin their 2026-27 NHL season with an 84-game schedule, as announced on Thursday. The season will commence with a home-and-home series against the Vancouver Canucks on September 29 and October 1.
This opening series against the Canucks marks the first of two such matchups in October for the Oilers. They will also face the Utah Mammoth in a home-and-home set on October 15 and 17. Following these games, the Oilers will host the Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes at Rogers Place on October 22, part of their initial extended homestand.
Key Home Games and Homestands
The early homestand for the Oilers includes several notable matchups. They will host the Toronto Maple Leafs on October 24, followed by a game against the Detroit Red Wings on October 26. The first Battle of Alberta against the Calgary Flames is scheduled for October 28, and they will also play the Minnesota Wild on October 20 during this period.
The team’s longest homestand of the season, spanning eight games, will occur around the All-Star Break in January and February. This stretch features games against the Montreal Canadiens on January 30, the Pittsburgh Penguins on February 13, and the Boston Bruins on February 19.
The Oilers will also have two extended six-game road trips, one in November and another from late December into early January. Their annual trip to New York will see them play the New York Islanders on October 31 and the New York Rangers on November 1, in a back-to-back sequence. This road trip concludes with a game against the New Jersey Devils on November 3.
Divisional Play and Season Close
The latter part of the regular season will see the Oilers heavily involved in divisional play, with 12 of their final 19 games against Pacific Division opponents. This includes three games against the Flames, with their last visit to Scotiabank Saddledome on March 23.
The regular season will conclude with a home-and-home series against the Winnipeg Jets on April 7 and 10. The full 84-game schedule is an expansion from previous seasons. Due to potential changes in Daylight Saving Time application across various jurisdictions, all game start times are subject to change.
The season opener against the Vancouver Canucks on September 29 will mark Mike Babcock’s regular-season debut as coach for the Oilers. This initial home-and-away series against the Canucks has been a recurring feature in previous seasons, including in 2023.
Other significant matchups include the Oilers facing the Carolina Hurricanes on October 22, which will be the first time new Oilers goaltender Frederik Andersen plays against his former team since joining Edmonton.
The Oilers will play the Buffalo Sabres on December 1. A game against the Dallas Stars is scheduled for December 17. The Oilers will also face the Colorado Avalanche on January 26 and the Vegas Golden Knights on February 3.
A matchup against the Columbus Blue Jackets on December 27. The Oilers will also play the Florida Panthers on November 17, a team that has made multiple trips to the Stanley Cup Final recently.
