The NHL free agency period has extended into a second day, with several notable players remaining on the market. Among those still available is Patrick Kane, a three-time Stanley Cup champion who spent the last three years with Detroit. Kane, who is 37, brings playoff experience and multiple championships to any team he joins.

Other wingers still unsigned include Vladimir Tarasenko, a two-time winner, and Anthony Mantha. Veteran forward Claude Giroux, at 38, is also seeking a championship.

Recent Signings and Contract Developments

The initial hours of free agency saw numerous player movements and significant contract agreements. Over $360 million worth of contracts were signed across the league. Bowen Byram, acquired in a trade with Buffalo, became a highly paid defenseman under his new deal with Chicago.

The salary cap saw another increase, reaching $104 million. This allowed teams to re-sign top players, impacting the depth of available talent in free agency. For instance, New Jersey extended captain Nico Hischier, Florida re-signed center Eetu Luostarinen, and Philadelphia secured goaltender Dan Vladar with a long-term contract.

The New York Islanders‘ general manager, Mathieu Darche, indicated that the team expects to have over $40 million in cap space next summer. Darche emphasized a continuous effort to improve the team, even during the offseason.
